How to Search Effectively

Search GoalRecommended Approach
Broad explorationStart broad. Choose Industry first, then add Service Category and Work Type.
Specific client needSearch for the actual work the client performs rather than relying on industry-code terminology.
Geographic focusApply State when the client only wants work in a defined service area.
Known buyer / agencyUse Agency when researching a particular jurisdiction or public entity.
Time-sensitive searchUse Closing to prioritize opportunities that are still actionable.
Too many resultsAdd one filter at a time. Narrow Work Type first, then geography, agency, or closing window.
Too few resultsRemove restrictive filters and broaden the work category before concluding that no opportunity exists.

Two Search Dashboards

The Professional Agency License includes two independent search dashboards within the Advisor Contract Search Portal.

State Contract Search

Taxonomy-based search using Industry, Service Category, and Work Type — for state, local, municipal, education, and other public-sector opportunities.

Federal Contract Search

A separate nationwide Federal Government dashboard with filters for NAICS, Agency, Notice Type / Solicitation Type, Set-Aside, State, Date Posted, and Closing Date.

Advisor Review Checklist

  • Confirm the opportunity is still open and the response window is practical.
  • Read Work Required to determine whether the opportunity aligns with the client's actual capabilities.
  • Review licenses, certifications, bonding, insurance, location, and other stated requirements.
  • Check whether the client must register with the issuing agency or procurement platform.
  • Use the authoritative agency source for final requirements, official documents, amendments, and submission instructions.
  • Do not treat a search result as an award recommendation, eligibility determination, or guarantee of fit.

Evaluation Feedback

During the complimentary evaluation period, please note anything that would make the search workflow faster, clearer, or more useful in your work with businesses. Feedback from participating agencies will be used to improve the Advisor experience.
